Summary edit

Description Another look at the Maiden Tower (Azerbaijani: Qız Qalası). This 12th century monument in the Icheri Sheher old city district in Baku, Azerbaijan, along with the Shirvanshahs' Palace, (which dates to the 15th century) forms an ensemble of historic monuments inscribed in 2001 under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments as cultural property, Category III. The Maiden Tower is one of Azerbaijan's most distinctive national symbols and is consequently featured on Azeri currency notes and on official letterheads. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)
