Description

The life of a Maiko is an unreachable dream for many Japanese girls. However, in Kyoto several boutiques offer a 'Maiko Style Experience' where girls can be pampered, made-up and dressed to look like the real thing.

Here one such customer poses for her photographer outside the Yasaka Pagoda. Her proud parents accompanied her on the shoot.

Whilst she might not be the real thing she was undoubtedly an interesting subject to photograph and an immediately recognisable image of Japan.
