Idaho City, founded in 1862, was the center of the Boise Basin gold rush in Idaho. The first Catholic Parish in Idaho was established in Idaho City in 1863, as was the first Masonic Temple in 1867. Idaho City later declined in size due to a decrease in mining and multiple fires.
