Shook Remark: Businesses that can be identified along the right side of this photograph, from foreground to the distant end of the street, are: • Hunter Bros. A furniture and undertaking business that also sold a variety of household products such as flooring and carpet, wallpaper, sewing machines, and glassware. • J. M. Wild Meat Market. The market sold meat and other provisions, as well as purchased hides and pelts. • Marr's General Merchandise. Marr's sold groceries, dry goods, clothing, boots, and shoes. Marr's also accepted as cash local farm produce, including potatoes, beans, bacon, lard, eggs, poultry, and butter. Today [2014], Phil's Food City currently occupies this structure. • Drugstore of Albert Moskop, Ph.C. Moskop was a chemist and druggist and sold typical drugstore products and stationary from his business establishment. Moskop also sold stock food, school textbooks, and baseball supplies. • McCrea Hardware Company. The hardware store sold Mitchell wagons, hacks, and buggies, Oliver plows, J. I. Case cultivators and harrows, sash and doors, American brand fencing material, paints, and oil. • Lorang's. T. P. Lorang sold ice cream, cold drinks, confectionery products such as chocolates and bon-bons, smoking pipes, tobacco, and cigars. • Fred S. Beckwith's. Beckwith had the largest stock of general merchandise in the area, selling Red, White, and Blue Flour, shoes by Chippewa, Selz, Florsheim, and Pingree, Chase and Sanborn tea and coffee. • Lauterbach Brothers. Lauterbach Brothers sold general merchandise, including groceries, furnishings, and feed. • Barnum Lumber and Construction Company. Barnum, besides being a building contracting company, sold moulding and millwork, sash and doors, roofing, and other building materials. The company operated mills northeast of Kendrick in Linden and Deary. • Barnum's Theatre. Vaudeville and dramatic presentations took place at this theatre. • Gazette Print Shop. Besides publishing the local newspaper, the shop all operated as the area's printer. Businesses that can be identified along the left side of this photograph, from foreground to the distant end of the street, are: • Kendrick State Bank. At this time, J. W. Bradbury was the bank's president and E. D. Bradbury was the cashier. At the close of business on April 28, 1909, the bank had resources totaling $156,710.46. • Success Restaurant. The restaurant proprietor, Edward C. Harrison, served meals at all hours. The restaurant also sold bakery bread, doughnuts, and special pastries. • Lincoln Hardware and Implement Company. Lincoln sold Studebaker wagons and vehicles, Hayes pumps, Canton clipper plows and cultivators, and Lisk anti-rust tinware. • Fraternal Temple Building. On the ground floor of this building, D. J. Rowlands operated a furniture and undertaking business. Rowlands also sold crockery, glassware, china, and wallpaper. • Lewis Jeweler. Besides jewelry, this firm sold Victor Talking Machines, watches, clocks, silverware, cut glass optical goods, musical instruments, cameras, and Kodak supplies. A registered optician also was employed by Lewis Jeweler. • Brickyard. The brickyard included kilns that could produce both common brick and steam dried brick, and steam pressed brick. In 1904, nearly the entire downtown portion of Kendrick was destroyed when a fire swept through it. The downtown portion of Kendrick had previously been destroyed by fire in 1892. The Potlatch River is located behind the town on the right side of the photograph. Note the photographer's shadow. Today [2014], the vacant lot visible on far left side of the image is the town park.
