Lovely scenery in this remote, rather idyllic part of Oahu, though I am actually on the grounds of a posh resort complex. The Nissan Altima is my rental car. Even though it is a Nissan product, I do consider the Altima to be American as well, as it is built in Tennessee with high levels of US content, exclusively for North America. And yes, this example did come from Tennessee; even though shipping from Japan would have been cheaper and shorter, Altimas are no longer made in Japan. The Altima's mechanical relatives in the rest of the world are the Japanese domestic Nissan Teana, the corporate parent Renault's Renault Laguna, the Renault Latitude which is the notchback version of the Laguna, and the Renault Safrane which is the Latitude for Mexico and the Middle East. The Latitude and the Safrane are sourced from Renault's Korean subsidiary Renault-Samsung rather than from Renault's French home assembly lines; its Korean domestic name is the Samsung SM5. |
