Summary edit

Description
English: Male Chironomid midge Also known as a non-biting midge, the males have those extraordinary antennae to help them find a mate. This one was photographed near the garden pond (TM166450) on 25 March 2015. ID confirmed as Chironomid by Paul Beuk on the Facebook UK Diptera page. Viktor Baranov has subsequently suggested that this specimen is probably Chironomus plumosus/borokensis/aprilinus based on its size (12mm) and wings.
