Description

Group of male immigrants pose for a photo. "This photo is believed to be of the 10 boys from the "Geelong" plus James Kirkland who had arrived on the "Ophir"on 27 Sept 1913. Kirkland aged 23 was to join the "Beltana" boys under recommendtion of the sub-manager of Produce Dept. Location Domestic Helpers' Home on the corner of Charles St and Montrose Ave Norwood was verified using other gn featuring groups of domestic helpers in front of the Home in sequence near this neg, a wider photo of the Home in the Chronicle, 28 Jun 1913, p.31 anb by observing the exterior of the Home itself, which still stands and is a private residence. It is likely that the 11 boys were housed at the Home, rather than Exhibition Blg where the other 3 groups were sent, owing to relatively small size of their group. From Elspeth Grant Honours Thesis.
