Description

Introduced, cool-season, annual herb. Plants are mucilaginous when crushed. Stems are decumbent or ascending, 20–60 cm long and hairy. Leaves are more or less circular, 2–5 cm wide, 5–7-lobed or nearly unlobed; base is cordate, margins crenate and the petiole is longer than blade.

Flowers are in axillary clusters forming an irregular raceme. Epicalyx segments are linear, free and attached near base of calyx. Calyx is 3-5 mm long, lobed to middle, spreading. Petals 5, are 6-12 mm long, pink to pinkish lilac. Flowering is in spring and early summer. A native of the Mediterranean, it is a weed of disturbed areas.
