Description
English: Original caption: Fig. 9 -- Rack Rail Locomotive in No. 5 Mine. This mine was located north of Marysville, Iowa and west of Bussey, Iowa. The locomotive uses the Morgan Rack combined third-rail and rack-traction system, and runs on 250-volt DC power at 80 horsepower on 36-inch gauge track.

Geolocation inferred from text of The Black Diamond article saying that Fig 9 shows the locomotive approaching the shaft bottom, combined with the photo of the surface works in Figure 1 that locates the tracks relative to the mine shaft. The ghost of an impression of the tracks to the abandoned mine is visible in the 1930's USDA aerial photos available at Iowa Geographic Map Server, which also allows correlation of locations with current aerial photos. The roughest initial guess at the location and the location of the railroad tracks came from file:MarysvilleMines.png.
