Description

From an astrological set of the nine planets personified: Mangala (Mars). Central India, circa first half 19th century. Opaque watercolour with silver and gold on wasli. 19.1 x 14.6cm

The inscription reads 'Bhauma', a less common name for Mangala, whose vahana (vehicle) is usually a ram but here a bull.
