Description
English: Portrait of Marie Adélaïde of Savoy (1685-1712), mother of Louis XV of France (1710-1774).
"portrait depicting a young lady with powdered wig in elaborately embroidered lace trimmed gown, with ermine and blue silk robe emblazoned with gilt fleur-di-lis designs. The half length portrait depicts the young woman standing, with a red drape in the background. Elaborate antique oval gesso carved frame with carved floral and shell decorations to top, bottom and sides, and incised foliate ornamentation with some red painted accents throughout. Sight- 31 1/2"H x 25"W. Frame – 40" H x 34" W. Note: this portrait is similar, particularly in the details of the dress, to Gobert's known portrait of Louise Elisabeth de Bourbon, Princesse de Conti (1693-1775). Pierre Gobert was the preferred painter of ladies of the court of Louis XIV."
