A. Bos schreef in 1946 het boekje ‘De Stad der Toekomst De Toekomst der stad’. Hij legde hiermee de basis voor de Wijkgedachte, waarvan de Rotterdamse woonwijken Pendrecht en Alexanderpolder uitvoeringen zijn. De beleving van groen en de invloed ervan op de gezondheid vormde een belangrijke pijler: ‘De mogelijkheid van het beleven van groen is een onmisbare waarde voor menswaardige woning- en stedebouw. Wanneer deze niet door tuinen en andere groenvoorzieningen volop wordt geboden, dan is dit ontbreken een misdaad tegenover individu en gemeenschap’

A. Bos wrote the booklet De Stad der Toekomst, De Toekomst der Stad – ‘The City of the Future, The Future of the City’ – in 1946, laying the foundations for the ‘Neighbourhood Concept’, which was applied in the Rotterdam residential districts of Pendrecht and Alexanderpolder. The experience of greenery and its effect on health were an important mainstay: ‘The possibility of experiencing greenery is an indispensable value for decent housing and town planning. When this is not offered in abundance by gardens and other green amenities, such a deficiency constitutes a crime against individual and community’.
