English: Mar Lodge This vast shooting lodge was built 1895-98 for the Duke and Duchess of Fife. The Duchess, Princess Louise, was a daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The architect was an Aberdonian, Marshall MacKenzie and it is said that Princess Louise suggested some of the designs. For some years a hotel it is now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. The ballroom is worth seeing decorated with hundreds of pairs of antlers. For a period in the seventies there was a welcome bar and showers available for those coming off the hill, neither alas now available for non residents |
