Dans le but d'honorer la seconde ville du royaume et de fêter l'heureux mariage de sa fille, le Roi avait décidé de donner, dans le Palais-Royal de Gênes, un bal à la Société de cette ville. — Il a eu lieu le lundi, 1er février, avec une magnificence et un empressement à défier toute description. La noblesse l'armée, la marine, la garde nationale, les officiers de l'escadre française, se pressaient dans les salons. — Impossible de voir ailleurs un tel luxe, un tel éclat de diamants. Gênes, la ville aux richesses entassées, avait vidé tous ses écrins.
