Description

PALLONE IN CAMPO A GENOVA.

The character of the bridal bedroom is above all elegance. There is nothing graceful about it, the curtains with which the two twin beds are joined and whose crowns of pink satin harmonize nicely with the hangings of the room. The luxury of these Genoese palaces, where the ornamentalist lavished paintings and gold, where the sumptuous consoles are loaded with the most precious decorative objects, gave this elegance a truly royal splendor. Believe me, you are receiving two rarities in these two drawings that will be highly sought after here. ED RIOU

COURT BALL IN GENOA.

In order to honor the second city of the kingdom and to celebrate the happy marriage of his daughter, the King had decided to give, in the Royal Palace of Genoa, a ball to the Society of this city. —It took place on Monday, February 1st, with a magnificence and eagerness to defy description. The nobility, the army, the navy, the national guard, the officers of the French squadron, crowded into the salons. — Impossible to see such luxury, such brilliance of diamonds anywhere else. Genoa, the city of piled-up wealth, had emptied all its jewel boxes. Noble ladies were shown, like the Marquise Balbi, the Marquise Pallavicini, who carried millions of precious stones with them. — The enthusiasm, the animation, the joy of everyone, were such that we could believe we were at a family reunion. And, in fact, not one of those present who did not bless the beloved sovereign from the bottom of their heart, not one who did not send the most sincere wishes to this gracious daughter of kings, so close to leaving her native land.

The ball was opened by H.H.H. Prince Napoleon and H.H.H. and R. Princess Clotilde. With the august couple were General Niel and the Countess of Coëllo, wife of the Minister of Spain; — the Prince de la Tour-d'Auvergne, Minister of France, and the Marquise Louise Centurioni, the Minister of Holland and the Marquise Nina Balbi-Senarega. The king withdrew quite early. — A little before midnight, the august spouses returned to their apartments. -After their departure, we heard, in the various salons, only one voice about the charming distinction, the exquisite affability, the goodness painted in all the faces of the princess, only a wish for happiness to her and to her happy husband.Charles de La Varenne
