PORT HUENEME, Calif. - Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC) Technical Director and Powerful Engagement and Learning In Naval Engineering and Science (PIPELINES) event moderator, Kail Macias and University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships Program Director Mariateresa Napoli announce the winners of the PIPELINES final presentations and Design Challenge Awards. The event, which culminated summer 2016's new workforce learning initiative, part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program, took place August 12, at the Bard Mansion on Naval Base Ventura County. Five student teams spent their eight weeks of summer with EXWC and UCSB mentors working on five engineering Design Challenges. The teams of 3-4 students enrolled in UCSB and local community colleges were assigned a project and given freedom to develop unique solutions for real-world situations.
