Description

I am visiting San Francisco for the Pride weekend - one that turned out to be the most historic of them all, thanks to the Supreme Court rulings that legal same-sex marriages cannot be denied federal benefits, and that Proposition 8, which had banned same-sex marriages in California in late 2008, is dead on a legal technicality.

Mark Leno is a prominent openly gay politician from San Francisco. After serving in San Francisco's Board of Supervisors, he moved on to state-level politics and currently serves in the State Senate. Leno has written a number of LGBT-positive laws that have made it into the books in the state, including SB48, FAIR Education Act, which provides for protection of LGBT students in California public schools as well as curriculum covering history of LGBT and other underrepresented groups.
