Summary

edit
Description Built in 1894. Behind it is the City Produce Market, where a grenade fell on the crowded marketplace on February 5, 1994, killing 68 people and wounding 144. A second attack occurred on August 28, 1995, when a mortar shell killed 37 people and wounded another 90. This latter attack was the stated reason for NATO air strikes against the Bosnian Serb forces that would eventually lead to the Dayton Peace Accords and the end of the war. Persistent rumors linger that the Bosnian government was actually responsible for one or both massacres.
