Summary edit

Description
English: Market Place, Hull Looking north-northwest from the Magistrates' Court towards the 'King Billy' statue and Holy Trinity Church. One of Hull's most important buildings, the Job Centre, is on the left between the church and the King William pub. Hull city centre doesn't really have a market these days although it does have a number of themed street fairs throughout the year. At some point the market was moved to King Street west of the church and Market Place became a busy stretch of the A1079. A few years ago the King Street site was redeveloped and the twice weekly market moved to the fairground on Walton Street, with a few stalls remaining in the city centre at Princes Dock Street. The equestrian statue of King William III, covered in gold leaf, was erected by public subscription in 1734-35 at a cost of a little under £900. Most of Holy Trinity Church as it is now was built between the 14th and 15th centuries. More about the church can be found at British History Online. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=66777
