English: Portrait of Maria Luisa of Spain (1745-1792) with her three elder children: Maria Theresa (1767-1827), Francis II (1768-1835) and Ferdinand (1769-1824).
Español: "Se representa a la doña María Luisa de Borbón, emperatriz consorte del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico, cónyuge de Leopoldo II e hija de Carlos III de España, con tres de los 16 hijos que tuvo; Francisco José, María Ana y María Clementina.
Se trata de una versión de la obra que realizó Anton von Maron, cuñado de Anton Raphael Mengs, que actualmente se conserva en Schönbrunn (Viena). La diferencia con la que subastamos es que en la de Viena, María Luisa señala con la mano derecha a sus hijos el busto de la emperatriz María Teresa. En el "Catálogo y descripción sumaria de retratos antiguos de personajes ilustres españoles y extranjeros de ambos sexos coleccionados por Valentín Carderera y Solano" (1877) se dice de este cuadro (nº de inventario 295) que era el primitivo, sirviendo de modelo para el que se conserva en Viena. Fue ejecutado por Anton von Maron dejando sin concluir los ropajes. Otro pintor suplió lo que faltaba." |
