English: Marple top lock, 1961 The brickwork on the left is for the bridge over the end of the Macclesfield Canal, which forms a junction with the Peak Forest Canal just behind the viewpoint. The fall per lock, averaging just over 13 ft, is exceptionally large in itself, and the grouping of 16 such locks in succession is unmatched in Britain. |
