Summary edit
DescriptionMarylebone - Holy Trinity Church - geograph.org.uk - 671739.jpg |
English: Marylebone: Holy Trinity Church, near to Marylebone, Westminster, Great Britain.
A "Waterloo" church that was built to celebrate the defeat of Napoleon, it was completed in 1828 and was built to the design of Sir John Soane. However it was an early victim of falling church attendances and was redundant by the 1950s. From 1956 until 2006 it was used as a bookshop by the SPCK (Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge), but is now used for offices. This is the view from outside Great Portland Street underground station. |
