Description
English: Soviet commemorative 5 rubles Cu-Ni coin (mass: 20.0g, mf: N/A, diameter: 35mm, thickness: 3.0mm, quality: proof) of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, often known simply as Matenadaran, located in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
  • Obverse shows the coat of arms of the USSR, the Russian text for "USSR" (СССР), the coin's denomination of 5 rubles (5 РУБЛЕЙ), and the date of mintage (1990).
  • Reverse shows an image of the Institute, an ancient manuscript, a sword, shield and an eagle, a candlestick, stylized text "Matenadaran" in Russian (Матенадаран) on the upper rim of the coin, stylized text "Yerevan" in Russian (ереван), and the foundation year of the Institute (1959).
Note: This coin was minted at the Union level, therefore file permissions fall under the copyright laws of the Russian Federation (as legal successor of the USSR, et al).
