Summary

Description A closer look at the modern railcar. I was rather impressed to see the 100kmph sign on the car side. They usually run at 80 though. The old route od the North Borneo Railway (now Sabah State Railway) was from Jesselton (Kota Kinabalu) to Beaufort, then on to Tenom. Three services run daily in the morning from KK (Tanjung Aru) to Beaufort. According to Wikepedia, there is also through service KK to Tenom, but it is run with conventional locomotive hauled stock and the train is usually a mix of passenger and freight cars. The single line from KK to Tenom is some 134km approx. The trip can ideally take 2 hours and 15 minutes but reality takes four, including stops, and also as the coaches can run at a speed of only up to 80 km/h, although this is an improvement compared to 50 km/h previously.
