Description
English: The former People's Bank of Buffalo building, 415 Amherst Street at Germain Street, Buffalo, New York, April 2020. Erected in 1920, the building is a textbook example of the "stripped classicism" style that served as a precursor to Art Deco; its Amherst Street façade is ornamented with a quartet of engaged Ionic columns as well as a cartouche along the parapet. The People's Bank of Buffalo was bought out by M&T Bank in 1927; the building continued to function as a bank until 1960, by which point it was a branch of the Marine Trust Company. It was later owned by Assumption R.C. Church, who used it as an apartment for Polish artist Jozef Slawinski, whom they commissioned to paint a series of murals inside the church. It's served since 1996 as the offices of architect Max Willig.
