Title |
Medieval to post-medieval : Spur Fitting |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy object which could be a spur fitting of medieval to post-medieval date. The fitting has a flattened, circular terminal from which extends an arm with a D-shaped section. This arm is slightly curved upward. Three projections are present at the opposite terminal of the fitting. A small arm extends at a 90 degree angle terminating with a hook. On the opposite side there is a thicker, shorter extension, decorated with a series of vertical incised lines, which splits in two, each piece curving outwards from the centre of the extension. The third projection rises up at a 90 degree angle from the object in plan. This projection has four lines of incised decoration and a blunt point. The reverse of the fitting is flat and undecorated. The metal is a dark brownish-green colour and is quite pitted. The object is 47.9mm long, 30.9mm wide, 4.2mm thick and weighs 14.5g. |
