editDescriptionMehner Schacht (1, Freital-Zauckerode, Wilsdruffer Straße 50).JPG |
English: Mehner-Schacht: airshaft of the Freital-Zauckerode colliery (1850—1959). To the right of the photographer was a surface ventilation furnace and its chimney, which pulled the air and its noxious gases, e.g. methane out of the underground mine (1854—1861). The chimney was 64 ft tall and had an inner width of 39 in. To meet additional requirements by increased mining a stronger steam-powered intake fan was employed for 12 years (1862—1874). It was replaced by a still stronger Guibal ventilator, also steam-powered; its fan impeller had a diameter of 7 m (1873—1901). When some galleries were shut, the airshaft served as an emergency shaft and was only occasionally used for ventilation (1901—1959). Cultural heritage.
