  • Scope and content: This document describes the activities of President Harry S. Truman immediately before and after the death of his mother, Martha Ellen Young Truman. It describes the activities and movements of President Truman, First Lady Bess W. Truman, Margaret Truman, and other family members in Independence and Grandview, Missouri as they prepared for Mrs. Truman's funeral service. It also specifically describes the steps taken to ensure President Truman signed the National Security Act of 1947 before his departure.
