English: Memorial Plaque, Bloxworth This plaque is on an oak tree in the centre of the village to commemorate the lives of servants to the estate. It Reads:-
THIS OAK OF BLOXWORTH SEED COMMEMORATES THE DEVOTED LIVES OF SERVICE TO THIS ESTATE OF THE TRENCHARDS & THEIR DESCENDANTS. PICKARDS, PICKARD-CAMBRIDGES AND LANES FOR 300 YEARS. 1664-1964 The Trenchards were owners of the estate from the 17th C. The Pickards were the rectors of the parish in the 19th C and changed their name to Pickard-Cambridge. Several members of their family were noted academics, producing such works as "The Spiders of Dorset" The Lanes were formerly Pickard-Cambridges. |
