DescriptionMenara Syahbandar.jpg |
English: This tower was built by the Dutch colonial government around 1839 and is known as Uitkijk. This tower serves as a place to monitor ships going in and out of the city of Batavia by sea. In addition, this tower was also used as a customs office, which is a place to collect taxes on goods unloaded at Sunda Kelapa Harbor.
The syahbandar tower has a height of 12 meters and there are three floors that can be visited. on the first floor, there is a stone inscription of the arrival of a Chinese merchant in the 17th century. The stone inscription is a marker of the zero point of Batavia or Jakarta at that time. The next floor, there are many glass boxes containing binoculars that are still original and are almost a century and a half old. These binoculars were used to monitor ships. On the top floor, you can see the scenery around the Syahbandar Tower area, starting from the Bridge, the first Cinema, the Pantura Monument, and the Maritime Museum. |
