Menefee Formation in road cut at Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado

Summary

edit
Description
English: This image shows a road cut that exposes the Menefee Formation at Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. The Menefee Formation consists of sandstone, shale, and coal beds forming the lower part of the road cut. This is overlain by tan beds of the Cliff House Formation. Both are late Cenozoic formations laid down during a regression-transgression sequence of the Western Interior Seaway.
