Summary edit

Description

After Germany's loss in World War I, hyperinflation swept through the German economy. The economic difficulties forced Daimler and Benz to merge into a single company in 1924. The combined company was called Daimler-Benz, and the model range took on the current name Mercedes-Benz. The full Mercedes-Benz symbol combines the three-pointed star of Daimler with the laurel surround of Benz.

While most Americans prefer to shorten the name to Mercedes, and most Asians (including the suited South Korean men walking around these cars) prefer to shorten the name to Benz, neither is correct. All 1924 and later vehicles must use the full Mercedes-Benz name, and the separate Mercedes and Benz names apply only to vehicles before then.
