Title
Methodist Church, Colfax, Washington, circa 1881
Description
The Rev. Milton S. Anderson was the first minister appointed to the Methodist church in Colfax on August 9, 1876. History of the church is as follows: The first Methodist Church was built then dedicated on the first Sunday of August 1880. It was located on the corner of Mill Street and Canyon Street in Colfax, Washington (see also WCLCF303). The church was replaced with a new building after the flood of 1910 (see WCL0037_item008 and WCLCF373). This building was destroyed by fire on October 17, 1920. The congregation built their third building shortly after. While the third building has had some structural changes, the building built in 1920 is still standing. In 1968 the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Episcopal Churches merged at both the national and local levels. The combination became known as the United Methodist Church.
