Description

The de Havilland Comet was the first jet-powered airliner to take to the skies, though due to infamous inflight breakups early in its career (caused by square windows causing premature metal fatigue), it developed a bad reputation and sold poorly. This is the first Comet that I am ever getting to see in person.

This particular example was the very first example of the ultimate Comet, the 4C. It was Mexicana's first jet aircraft, entering service on the Mexico City - Los Angeles route in 1960 and flying until 1972. Initially destined for charter use, it ended up at Paine Field in Everett in the late 1970s and sat abandoned until 1995, when Museum of Flight took ownership and has been restoring it ever since.
