English: Microfilaria is a term used to describe the larval stage of parasitic nematode worms that belong to the family Filariidae. These worms can cause diseases in humans and animals, and some species of microfilariae can be found in the eye. The most well-known eye-dwelling microfilaria is Onchocerca volvulus, which causes a disease called onchocerciasis or river blindness.
