Summary
editDescriptionMiddle Washfold - geograph.org.uk - 816918.jpg |
English: Middle Washfold. Middle Washfold is a area of exposed limestone on the moor below Ingleborough. There are several caves and potholes carved through by streams which eventually emerge at 255317
The name comes from the sheepfold at the left which was used to hold sheep before washing in the stream. It is likely that the outlet was dammed to deepen the water (and prevent the loss of sheep down the plughole). |
