Summary edit

Description
English: Middleton Lime Works. The limestone band beneath the Southern Upland fault has been widely worked for lime. Most quarries have closed and are grassed over, but there is still an active quarry and lime works here. Limestone is roasted to form Calcium oxide, an important component of cement, it is also spread on acid soils, which start hereas soon as the lime belt is left, to improve fertility.
