Description
English: Count Mikhail Speransky, original painting by George Dawe. This copy was made in 1850 by artist Yakovlev for the Helsinki University. Speransky had been the first State Secretary for the Grand Duchy of Finland, and hence this version of the portrait contains special references to Finland: Speransky is leaning on a book called ”Institutions of Finland 1809–1812” (Uchrezhdeniya Finlyandyi) and on the left background is the cityscape of Helsinki (including Helsinki cathedral, which was completed after Speransky's death).
