Description
Italiano: Milano, Duomo, Presbiterio di Pellegrino Tibaldi, XVI secolo. Il Tempietto o ciborio del Pellegrini, che racchiude al suo interno il tabernacolo cilindrico a torre, dono del 1591 di Papa Pio IV Medici al nipote Carlo Borromeo. Il tempietto ha la forma di un piccolo tempio classico circolare, la cui cupola è adornata da statue di angeli e coronata dal Salvatore. Esso ripete nella forma il tabernacolo interno, cilindrico, retto da quattro angeli e interamente modellato con episodi della vita di Cristo. Ai due lati del ciborio sono le due imponenti statue in argento di san Carlo e sant'Ambrogio, capolavoro di scultura ed oreficeria barocca. La statua di san Carlo, risalente al 1610, fu modellata dallo scultore Andrea Biffi e cesellata dall'orafo Verova. La Mitra è ornata con perle e pietre preziose donate dai fedeli. La statua di sant'ambrogio, Successiva di quasi un secolo (1698), l'intera superfice è fittamente cesellata e decorata con diamanti e pietre dure.
