English: Milestone, Malvern Link. Behind the railings of the United Reformed Church.
The metal plate reads : "To Worcester Cross 7 Miles" 1779227 The arrow of a bench mark has been carved near the top of the stone. This is a Pivot Bench Mark, numbered PV0155. This bench mark was used during the First primary levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 205.1850 feet [62.5404 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included on the Manchester to Gloucester (Branch Levelling [from Powick] to Great Malvern) levelling line. The surveyor's description was "Mark on top of the 7th milestone from Worcester ; level with road." http://www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm31358 |
