English: Milestone at Hospital Road, Omagh. This milestone is just round the corner from me and I have only discovered it now. The figures don't quite add up as they read Omagh 1 - Dungannon 12 (if it is supposed to be Irish miles the total should be 20), there is a similar one on the same coach route located beside the Milestone Centre outside Carrickmore, see 1667803.
Apparently the stone was well hidden amongst the old wall and this was rebuilt when the road widening scheme was taking place. The workers were going to plaster over this stone but fortunately the house-owner stopped them from doing so. Quite an unexpected bonus too, after coming across one yesterday on the Dublin Road. 376280 |
