English: Military plaque, Belfast. I admit that I have passed this plaque many, many times without stopping to look at it. It records the founding of the 35th Regiment of Foot http://www.btinternet.com/~the35thfootproject/origins.html by Arthur Chichester (who owned much of Belfast and surrounding area) in 1701. It is on the former Anderson & McAuley's store 432317 in Donegall Place. Not too easy to imagine an 18th century regiment of foot encamped in Donegall Place in 2008. |
