Summary edit
DescriptionMilky Way over Dune Ripples (51969761990).jpg |
Great Sand Dunes is a certified International Dark Sky Park due to clear, dry air, high elevation, and distance from light pollution. Plan ahead for weather, time of year, and moon phase to be able to see the Milky Way's soft glow. To the naked eye at night, it just appears as a thin, dull white cloud, but longer camera exposures pick up subtle colors. The brightest part of the Milky Way is most visible on clear, moonless nights in late summer. NPS/Patrick Myers |
