Description

One of the relief carvings along the cornice, on Mill Hill Unitarian Chapel, City Square, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Architects Bowman & Crowther of Manchester, opened 1848. All original architectural stone carving is by Robert Mawer. This one features a gryphon: a mythological animal with a lion's body and and eagle's wings and head.

Note: most of these exterior stone carvings are weather-worn.
