File:Dog teams and men at Keewalik Hotel, Kiwalik, Alaska, between 1900 and 1910 (AL+CA 145).jpg

identifies the Keewalik Hotel in Keewalik (modern: Kiwalik) on Kotzebue Sound about 240 kilometres (150 mi) from Nome.

File:Side wheel steamer SAIDIE loading the stern wheel steamer JOHN REILLY for Kobuk, September 29, 1903 (NOWELL 77).jpeg

is from Nowell on the same day as this photo. The description there says that as of 1902 Saidie was operating from Cape Nome to Kotzebue Sound.
Perhaps these miners started from Nome on the Saidie then stopped at Keewalik to transfer to the John Reilly, which would take them to Kobuk River?
