Summary edit
DescriptionMiniature locomotive "Waverley" (geograph 1854197).jpg |
English: Miniature locomotive "Waverley". Seen here getting up steam, this 10 1/4" gauge miniature locomotive is based on an "Atlantic" 4-4-2 tender engine. She has had a long and varied life - built between 1948 and 1950 by David Curwen of Dorset, she started life working on a miniature railway in Skegness as an un-named engine. After a year she was transferred to Baydon Miniature Railway in Weymouth, where she was named "Black Prince" and she managed to clock up an incredible 80,000 miles on a one mile track! In 1965, badly in need of repair, she went to Cheshire for a while and then to Derbyshire where she was given a full overhaul. From here she went to the Great Central Railway in Loughborough and was renamed "Waverley", where she was used to haul passengers from the station to the sheds before the standard gauge line was opened. After this she went to Mull and ran on the Isle of Mull Railway, but due to difficulties with the climate she was withdrawn from service for a while until eventually coming to the Rudyard Lake Steam Railway in 2005. More detailed information is available on the RLSR's website. |
