Description Photographed in the garden in Ipswich, East Suffolk, TM16644502. Although it is difficult to distinguish between P aurata and P purpuralis, I think in this case the moth's wings are wide enough open to confirm that there is no spot additional to the gold band closer to the basal area of the hind wings as found in P aurata. see www.upperthames-butterflies.org.uk/Moth_files/Pyraustas_d...
