Description Lot 10944-5: Miss Harriman and young sailors on board USS Recruit. Recruit was a wooden mockup of a dreadnought battleship constructed by the U.S. navy in Manhattan, New York City. Used as a recruiting tool and training ship during World War I, it was dismantled in 1920. Note, another USS Recruit (TDE-1, later TFFG-1) was also in service as a training tool, serving at Naval Training Center, San Diego (Point Loma), California, at various times from 1949 to 1997. Photographed by Bain News Service, New York, between 1917-20. (7/31/2015).
