| Description | A head hunter's grisly trophy, a human head, was prominently displayed as you entered the long house. 'Don't worry, that's not a real hunter, there are no more head hunter's', our guide assured us. He went on to say, 'this is a copy, made of plastic, made in China'. (eew, is there anything the Chinese don't make?) Tribal head hunters used to follow the gruesome tradition for scores of reasons, like as a mourning ritual, for protection against spirits, as a symbol of power etc. There were several ethics in head hunting though, like not to tak the heads of folks who have surrendered etc. (Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia, Nov. 2013) |
