Affiche d'une exposition du Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts Oeuvre de Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) 1895 Papier, lithographie couleur Paris, musée des arts décoratifs Cette affiche est située dans la première salle de l'exposition pour rappeler la proximité de l'architecte Eckart Muthesius avec Charles Rennie Mackintosh, son parrain et ami de son père Hermann Muthesius. Mackintosh avait travaillé pour la maison familiale des Muthesius à Nikolassee près de Berlin. Eckart Muthesius a rencontré le Maharajah d'Indore en 1929 qui lui a confié la conception de son nouveau palais Manik Bagh. Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs met à l’honneur l’extraordinaire figure du maharajah d’Indore qui donne libre cours à son goût d’avant-garde artistique et décorative en créant, en Inde, un univers moderne unique. Personnalité visionnaire du milieu culturel européen des années 1920-1930, il est le commanditaire de la toute première construction moderniste de son pays : le palais Manik Bagh (1930-1933), témoignage de l’effervescence de la scène artistique de l’époque.
