Esta foto participó en Otro Lugar de Flickr A dos kilómetros de Carcastillo, a orillas del río Aragón y en medio de una explanada sin apenas vegetación, se levanta el complejo de edificios medievales que forman el monasterio cisterciense de La Oliva. Su nombre tiene mucho de leyenda ya que, según cuenta la tradición popular, un rey navarro, en su lucha contra los árabes, resultó herido y fue a morir al pie de un acebuche. En el lugar del olivo silvestre se construyó el monasterio de La Oliva, fundado en 1149 por la orden del Cister. Tras siglos de esplendor en la Edad Media, la guerra de la independencia y la Desamortización dejaron al cenobio en ruinas y abandonado hasta que en el siglo XX se restauró y restituyó la vida monástica. |
